Back in the studio…finally

After innumerable delays caused by sickness, bookings that clash, models not being available and alien invasion of the planet (just kidding) I finally made it back to the studio to shot a series of portraits and tag ads for a fast growing cosmetics company. The Artistic director is one of those whirlwind types that inspire frantic activity from all those around her and consequentially we shot at a machine gun rate.

Lots of different props were used and the make up artists and stylists were kept running to keep the girls and boy in front of the camera. Due to the rate of shots, and the type of ad these images were produced for, we kept the lighting simple, A large diffusion panel with a bare 600w strobe at 1/8 for the main, and a large soft box high at 45 degrees opposite. I have included a link to a site with a description on building such a panel, http://photo.mattdewitt.com/blog/2008/12/30/diy-diffusion-panel/ .

The light thru this panel wraps beautifully round all subjects and the soft box was just there to control shadow. The portrait stuff was easy, as it should be, with a soft box and reflector below and very little post required.

Yes it is nice when the models are young enough that very little post is needed. It’s equally nice when they know how to pose without the photog having to direct every little hand placement, etc.
