Cooly Rocks..some of the sights !

13 Jun

Due to the rain and other shoots during the Cooly Rocks Festival, I only got there for an hour or so on a very wet and cold aftrenoon.

However these two shots give an idea about the diversity of style and the tongue in cheek nature of these Rock and Roll, car loving, dance enthusiasts.

Dedication or stupidity?………………..

At the outdoor fashion show, Fashion on James(see more at http://www.facebook.com/andrewplacephotographyQld ) that I have blooged about, the weather was always going to be an issue.

A blast of winter had zoomed up the coast from colder climates and was drenching the whole region.

Backup plans were in place but they would be no where near as effective exposure for the streets traders, so with the little amount of sunshine that was around the show pressed on outdoors.

It was gret until the last half hour when the heavens opened.

The designer taht was still left to showcase her wares and the models got together and decided to push on, as the only two professional photographers present and with me covering for Fashion TV Australia ( http://www.facebook.com/fashionTVaustralia ) Joel Stafford and myself enlisted to willing mobile umbrella stands and kept shooting.

I got drenched but the Nikon stayed dry………………….

Fashion show time……..

3 Jun

Those of you that have shot a fashion show will realise that it’s not all beer and skittles.

Usually there is average to less than average lighting, the facilities that sound great when promoted by the organiser are not always the way you have envisaged them in your mind.

and then often the combination of questionable garment choice, poor  or down right crazy make up  and models that shouldn’t, can end up in a post production nightmare…….for little result.

So when I arrived at the local fashion show, Fashion on James, I had a major yipee moment.

Well organised, fantastic garments, young but talented models and the most organised professional and skilled make up/hair team I have ever seen.

Over the next few posts I will put up a few more images from this great fashion event.

Surfing up a storm………

29 May

I have posted images of surfing before on this blog, hey lets face it I do live about ten minutes from a suburb called Surfers Paradise.

Usually when there is a rideable wave near here, its standing room only out the back and each wave is hotly contested.

Not the case today when this bloke was all alone, surfing up a storm…………………..

Sentinel seascape……

23 May

Along a rocky shore, its funny how a few rocks always look as if they have a purpose as opposed to being just there…….

Innocence…………

19 May

Sometimes even the most beautiful of women still have that air of innocence.

Chantelle was one of these rare models, fashionably aloof and yet always ready for the shot, throughout a long afternoon there was not one missed shot of this fantastic talent…

Great place for a chat…………

15 May

I am not a surfer, I am not even a beginner and I kinda wish I was……………..because I love a chat.

I will chat about the weather, politics(if I want to go to sleep), food, travel and most obviously photography.

So it came as a revelation to me that all these hard-core surfers were really doing is finding a great place for a chat………….

Sunrise textures………..

14 May

I went for a walk the other morning, more to enjoy the beautiful weather than to capture anything special.

But those of you that take pictures will understand that after a while your eyes become a view finder and you start looking at the world around you as potential images.

As I walked across the sands at low tide, past a spot that my family swim at regularly, I noticed the shadows, lines in the bridge and the waves in the exposed sand.

I was compelled to capture and share these Sunrise Textures…………

Good Morning Gold Coast……………..

12 May

It truly is good for the soul to be on a beach at sunrise and here on the Gold Coast the secret is well and truly out.

People come from everywhere, runners, walkers and of course surfers.

There is a mixture of cooking bacon, coffee and sea spray in the air.

Its tough I know, but someone has to do it !!

A true genius……

11 May

Over the course of your life, if your lucky, you will meet a handful of people who through hard work and gained experience are really masters of their trade.

I have been lucky enough to meet a few in different professions

the man who taught me to fly gliders, Jimmy Jones, a true gentleman who should have been born with wings,

a good friend Irving, who can really turn his hand to anything and produce incredible results and yet make it seem easy, on top of being always willing to help,

and tonight, I had the privilege to meet and watch Joe McNally  ( www.joemcnally.com ) create beautiful images,

Joe had the mix of enthusiast and professionals laughing, shaking their heads in amazement, laughing, questioning their skills, laughing…you get the picture(pun kinda intended)

A master of light, Joe took the time to explain, in layman’s terms, how to completely stuff up an image and then turn it into a winner.

I was lucky enough to talk to the man for a few minutes and he was just like talking to any other photographer…enthusiastic, friendly and passionate about our art form, not only that he is just a really nice bloke.

Have look at his website and blog, I guarantee you will be caught up by the enthusiasm and  skill.
