Out there early………

26 Mar

When I gwt up in the pitch dark, make a coffee and head for the beach, I usually only encounter the occasional jogger or walker.

This morning members of the fisherman tribe outnumbered the rest of us.

The “Taylor” are running, I was told by a fellow with four rods. two bags and a large bucket as he scampered past me onto the narrowest rock ledge.

Fisherman put photographers to shame when it comes to accumulating gear, ….uummmh, must try and change that!

However we have something important in common, if you want the big fish or the best shot, you have to be out there early………

Rock Fishing Drenching…….

28 Dec

I have during the course of taking seascapes, been caught by the occasional rogue wave.

It usually means that I go home with drenched shoes,  jeans and lens filters covered in salt spray.

Nothing to really worry about, a quick clean of the filters and camera, hose the tripod off and cover it in WD-40, and put the shoes in the sun.

However the fisherman in this image will think about location and tides a little more before he next casts a hook.

PS he was knocked over by this wave, he got up only to be knocked over twice more…then he packed up and left!!

dedication………..

16 Jan

Golfers, runners and fishermen/women are, in my opinion are the epitome of dedication. They participate in their chosen fields regardless of weather, location or in the case of fishermen, chance of success. They endure these hardships silently and without adulation from admirers. Those of us that don’t feel the need to beat a little white ball into submission, or run up hills when a motorcar will take us there quicker and with the air con on, don’t understand what the disciples to these addictions gain from the work they put in, and as for those hooked on fishing don’t they realise that they can just go to the fish and chippy and buy the whole family dinner for less than the price of a lure. This is all tongue in cheek of course its great to see people enjoying their chosen pastimes, and I am sure they shake their heads when they see us clambering over rocks with thousands of dollars of equipment.
