Clouds are closing in……………

5 May

A lovely morning at Burleigh Beach this morning, great clouds and wave action.

A little chill in the air which of course made the first coffee taste even better.

I actually shot too many from this same location this morning because it was just so nice to be there.

Break of dawn at Burleigh beach……….

5 May

Out early this morning, some cloud activity, which we all know is great for photos.

Lately I have either slept in or there hasn’t be a cloud in the sky.

Not today, but before I shown those pics, here is one from the the break of dawn at Burleigh beach…….

Before the sun came up………

28 Apr

After a bit of a lay off due to other work, I jumped out of bed with gusto.

Off to the beach to capture a nice sunrise or two.

I drove to the beach, strolled out to the rocks, coffee in hand and waited….

The sun now rises almost an hour later since I last was at the beach !!

So I captured some shots before the sun came up…….

Light Painting…well, sort of……..

4 Apr

There are lots of very creative photographers out there that push boundaries all the time.

HDR, Lensbaby, even infra-red images are created.

Me, I stick with what i know..,most of the time.

The other morning whilst walking along the creek, I noticed that the street lights painted these rocks and gave them an unusual hue .

To me it was kinda like light painting…well, sort of………….

Easter Saturday sunrise……..

30 Mar

The long weekend is here, the roads are packed, the beaches will be family favourites,

Special foods hit our tables, and families get together.

Snapper Rocks and the remnants of the bad weather served up a beautiful Easter Saturday sunrise…….

Artificial Light……

16 Feb

After a week or so of early starts, long hours and watch beautiful coloured sunrises appear as I headed away from them to other jobs, I was eager to make an early start this morning to capture some of the Gold Coasts beautiful coastline at sunrise.
I got up too early, and found myself with no light.
At nearby Burleigh Heads, an iconic bistro had taken beating during a recent storm and I decided to see if there might be a few low light (no light??) images to capture before dawn.
Now I have shot here before, but this morning an approaching storm provided a sensational curtain to separate the glitter strip from the ocean.
Truly a great example of outdoor usage of Artificial Light….

Light…….

5 Jan

As a photographer, light is the one thing that we always want to be just right.

In a studio we can control and shape light to suit the style we are shooting.

Outdoors, mother nature is the boss when shooting landscapes.

Sure there are filters and settings to affect the image, but when she puts on a show why change the light………
