Rock Fishing Drenching…….

28 Dec

I have during the course of taking seascapes, been caught by the occasional rogue wave.

It usually means that I go home with drenched shoes,  jeans and lens filters covered in salt spray.

Nothing to really worry about, a quick clean of the filters and camera, hose the tripod off and cover it in WD-40, and put the shoes in the sun.

However the fisherman in this image will think about location and tides a little more before he next casts a hook.

PS he was knocked over by this wave, he got up only to be knocked over twice more…then he packed up and left!!

A wave before dinner……………

18 Jun

I am not a surfer, however I get why so many make the daily pilgrimage to the sea before starting the day.

Invigorating, centring and just great exercise, a morning surf must help steel you for the days labours.

But interestingly there is just as many surfers that are out in the evening looking for the last wave before dusk.

Maybe it has a calming effect, brushing away the days tribulations, much like capturing that last image of the surfer catching a wave before dinner……………

The last picture of the day……….

Fashionable Burleigh Heads here on the Gold Coast really has it all. We are far enough from the tourist hub not to be affected but close enough if we want a bit of glitz, we have cafes and restaurants and enough fashion boutiques to keep the look changing constantly.

The beach and the break on the point attract surfing royalty all year round and there is the most brilliant safe swimming beach for the family just around the headland.

This young body boarder was catching the last picture of her boyfriend surfing for the day………….

Catching the light………

Out of bed early to start work on a series of Seascapes that depict the love affair with the beach and surrounds here on the Gold Coast.

Surfing up a storm………

29 May

I have posted images of surfing before on this blog, hey lets face it I do live about ten minutes from a suburb called Surfers Paradise.

Usually when there is a rideable wave near here, its standing room only out the back and each wave is hotly contested.

Not the case today when this bloke was all alone, surfing up a storm…………………..

Beach Boys music and a classic truck…………

The “Cooly Rocks” Festival starts again next week, the festival pays homage to all things Rock and Roll.

Slick hair, booby socks, swirling skirts, rumbling V8s and burger bars..Cooly Rocks has it all.

Coolangatta, the town that hosts the festival is on of the hottest beach destinations along the coast and so there has to be a fair bit of Beach Boys rocking over the beach….

Sentinel seascape……

Along a rocky shore, its funny how a few rocks always look as if they have a purpose as opposed to being just there…….

Storm approaching…….

21 May

Surfing seems to be a funny sport, at a Tennis match if it rains, the game stops, Racing drivers don’t like rain, Cricket stops for rain and yet surfers leap from the VW Kombis and head for the sea in search of the rapidly building swell.

Great place for a chat…………

15 May

I am not a surfer, I am not even a beginner and I kinda wish I was……………..because I love a chat.

I will chat about the weather, politics(if I want to go to sleep), food, travel and most obviously photography.

So it came as a revelation to me that all these hard-core surfers were really doing is finding a great place for a chat………….

Good Morning Gold Coast……………..

12 May

It truly is good for the soul to be on a beach at sunrise and here on the Gold Coast the secret is well and truly out.

People come from everywhere, runners, walkers and of course surfers.

There is a mixture of cooking bacon, coffee and sea spray in the air.

Its tough I know, but someone has to do it !!
