I receive a lot of comments regarding the style of pics people see on this blog.
Fashion, Glamorous models and seascapes, well guess what I do look at other genres as well
Here is neither fashion nor beach,
After a marathon fashion shoot, an extended hike with my son’s scout troop, a relaxing walk along the beach with a camera in hand was in order.
Snapper Rocks has changed so much since the big storms earlier this year, so it’s like finding a new location every time I visit.
This morning the surf was pounding in, and there was a wonderful contrasting sky…….
There are lots of very creative photographers out there that push boundaries all the time.
HDR, Lensbaby, even infra-red images are created.
Me, I stick with what i know..,most of the time.
The other morning whilst walking along the creek, I noticed that the street lights painted these rocks and gave them an unusual hue .
To me it was kinda like light painting…well, sort of………….
Whoops….Sunrise is at 6.00am not 5.00am, and yes I found myself standing near a small lighthouse, freezing cold getting covered in salt spray.
Three pics later I had enough of that location.
The clouds weren’t co-operating, it was too windy and the sky stayed grey.
As I neared home, I noticed that Burleigh Heads was sheltering a small rock pool and the sun was partly hidden by cloud.
Knee deep in still clear water, I was lucky to at least capture a seagull sunrise…..
The sun has returned from its sabbatical, finally.
The Gold Coast can now start to rebuild the beautiful beaches and its great to see people out and about.
As I backed out the drive at 5.00am this morning a small rain squall hit, and I thought here we go again.
I continued to a favourite spot to be greeted by this dramatic sunrise full of colour…….
After a week or so of early starts, long hours and watch beautiful coloured sunrises appear as I headed away from them to other jobs, I was eager to make an early start this morning to capture some of the Gold Coasts beautiful coastline at sunrise.
I got up too early, and found myself with no light.
At nearby Burleigh Heads, an iconic bistro had taken beating during a recent storm and I decided to see if there might be a few low light (no light??) images to capture before dawn.
Now I have shot here before, but this morning an approaching storm provided a sensational curtain to separate the glitter strip from the ocean.
Truly a great example of outdoor usage of Artificial Light….
I have taken a lot of seascape lately, it has given me the chance to separate myself from portraiture and fashion, a bit of a holiday, a chance to refocus (bad pun I know).
I have had an epiphany moment and gained new vigour in deciding, not only where I want to go photography wise, but also how to get there.
It was a little like the feeling I got when taking this shot, thinking of the setting to use, I took my eyes off the sea and suddenly got hit by a rogue wave.
The camera escaped with just a few splashes, but I got the whole lot and I realised right there why,
I was shooting in facing north, not south that when I realised I need to find a new direction…………
