Photographic “Master chef” style program

17 Jun

The popularity of photography has not been lost on Australia’s government owned TV network.

The ABC, which has always had a strong focus (sorry..I couldn’t help it) on documentry/lifestyle shows has debuted this show “Photo Finish”

I wonder if, like so many successful ABC documentry style shows it will end up on the commercial networks as a platform for Nikon or Canon to showcase thier products.

At the end of the day, it should be a good thing for our artform, with more people realising that a great deal of skill and knowledge goes into a great picture !

More studio fitness………………

12 Jun

Just a couple more from an earlier post

https://andrewplacephotography.wordpress.com/2012/06/12/studio-fitness/

being able to stand back and change the light is the benefit of being in a studio

this shoot was great fun and a new style for me…………………….

Belly Dancing…………..

21 May

Belly dancing seems to be commonplace nowadays.

Perhaps its a new fitness craze, or perhaps the need to fine something creative in a life dominated by reality TV and facebook.

The classically beautiful Tehlia is stunning in her role as a belly dancer

Kombis’………….

20 May

There is an ever increasing presence of VW Kombis’ (microbus, of Arlo Guthries’ Alices’ Restaurant fame ) here on the Gold Coast.

It has become very fashionable to be seen in a early split window restored, pimped or even retro’ed.

The latest form of Volksy art is to restore the mechanicals and pimp the interior but leave the outside in rust streaked and faded paint tones.

Here is the beautiful Sheree, with an image I prepared earlier (lol)……………………….

Sunrise textures………..

14 May

I went for a walk the other morning, more to enjoy the beautiful weather than to capture anything special.

But those of you that take pictures will understand that after a while your eyes become a view finder and you start looking at the world around you as potential images.

As I walked across the sands at low tide, past a spot that my family swim at regularly, I noticed the shadows, lines in the bridge and the waves in the exposed sand.

I was compelled to capture and share these Sunrise Textures…………

All that is old is actually …not!!

10 May

Photoshop, lets face it photoshop is a form of entertainment in itself.

In this day and age of reality TV about singers, obesity, renovation and cooking, its nice to actually see some real creativity.

Yes, I can here the opponents screaming derision, ” how do you know the photo is real”, short answer …..you don’t.

I for one was one the biggest nay sayers when it came to photography and photoshop, however now I am seeing it in a different light.

Now I see it as merely another tool to get the job done, and no I am not talking about complete image rebuild, just a tweak here and there in the main.

Some images require a goodly amount of conversion to make them fit the brief, this can also be because of weather or poor camera technique.

I confess that i am no photoshop guru, but boy’o’boy it is great fun.

Surfing in clouds………

6 May

During a little photo-walk this morning with videographer Nathan from DreamSpace productions, we ended up shooting on the rocks at Currumbin Beach.

The tide was high and the swell was up, there were surfers coming from everywhere to get into the action.

The normal entry points off the rocks were constantly getting covered by the heavy swell and this left many surfers contemplating the best way to join the fun…………………..

Make Up Beauty………..

19 Apr

Make up artists make us look good……No!, not the model, the photographer.

They smooth skin enhance features and hide others, add highlights and subtract blemishes.

And quite often they themselves should be in front of the camera, like Olivia

Beauty……………

15 Mar

One of my favourite models, Ali. Not a classic beauty, nor someone that stops traffic, but she just has something which makes her stand out.

Just another example of the inner being showing thru…………

No post production required…….

21 Feb

A few posts ago in featured a shoot that was done at the beach with the superb Kristina, she was just great in so many ways..a real professional model.

I went back and review a few shots of her today as is my habit and wondered whether or not some post production may enhance her portrait.

For portraits, head shots that is, I cheat sometimes and use the wonderful Portrait Professional. Most people who go thru this digital make over are amazed by both the result and speed that the process takes.

I put Kristina thru the process and for the first time ever since I started with this enhancement tool, I discovered that she just didn’t need it.
