It really doesn’t get much better for me.
I get to make light do what I want, the team get to review the images as they are taken.
Everybody is aware whats going on, including the model, which lets her know how she is looking.

Creative Workflow
We are shooting a lot of model portfolios and fashion pieces at the moment.
These are always great fun, lots of creative people coming together to achieve something special.
The model can make a shoot, those that become involved and add to the collective creativity are fantastic.
Here is one such model, April in April…..

The Gold Coast is yet again, wet and gray, yep more rain.
I am not going to get started on the climate change debate, however there is certainly something going on.
This beach shower at Nobbys beach probably wont see a lot of customers today.

Whats in today is old tomorrow, and then in ten years time that style is the hottest in town again.

There are lots of very creative photographers out there that push boundaries all the time.
HDR, Lensbaby, even infra-red images are created.
Me, I stick with what i know..,most of the time.
The other morning whilst walking along the creek, I noticed that the street lights painted these rocks and gave them an unusual hue .
To me it was kinda like light painting…well, sort of………….

Futuristic Retro….
Whoops….Sunrise is at 6.00am not 5.00am, and yes I found myself standing near a small lighthouse, freezing cold getting covered in salt spray.
Three pics later I had enough of that location.
The clouds weren’t co-operating, it was too windy and the sky stayed grey.
As I neared home, I noticed that Burleigh Heads was sheltering a small rock pool and the sun was partly hidden by cloud.
Knee deep in still clear water, I was lucky to at least capture a seagull sunrise…..

Burleigh Heads is a remarkable location.
Great surfing on one side, family friendly swimming on the other.
Fishing of all kinds and beautiful walks thru rainforest with remnants of ancient volcanos all around.
Its hard to find a great location to shoot from, but my favourite is along the Eastern edge amongst the basalt pillars and boulders.
Its easy to get up early to catch the Burleigh sunrise……

A classically beautiful model, a stunning dress and simple backdrop.
Add a strobe and softbox and you get shaped light……..

When I set out for my morning photo walks, the lights are out in most shops around the Gold Coast.
With our growing addiction to the coffee bean, and more people than ever walking early in the morning,
I see signs appearing all over the coast at sunrise, “the cafe is open”……
The cafe is open…..
